YOUR GENERAL PEST SERVICE GUIDE

Pest control prep & aftercare.

A few simple steps. We’ll handle the treatment.

You do not need to spend hours getting your home ready. Pick up outdoor toys and bowls, arrange a separate place for pets, and tell us where you’re seeing bugs. If you want interior service, a lived-in home is fine.

BEFORE WE ARRIVE

The short checklist

01

Pick up toys & bowls

Bring pet bowls, chew toys, children’s toys, and other loose items out of the outdoor treatment area.

02

Make a plan for pets

Keep animals securely away from the work area during treatment and from treated surfaces until dry. Follow any additional instructions for your visit.

03

Show us the problem

Tell us where you’ve seen bugs, whether you want interior service, and anything we should know about access.

INTERIOR SERVICE, IF YOU WANT IT

Your home does not have to be perfect.

In our day-to-day service, indoor preparation is rarely a problem. Easy access along walls is helpful, but you do not need to empty rooms or move every piece of furniture. We can usually help shift manageable items when it is safe to do so; let us know about anything heavy, fragile, or difficult to access.

We focus on where bugs travel.

Depending on the pest and product label, interior service may include targeted spray applications along baseboards and into cracks and crevices. We pay attention to entry points, utility rooms, basements, accessible areas behind couches, and the places where you are seeing activity.

A full garage can limit access.

If stored belongings completely block the garage walls or the areas we need to reach, treatment options are limited. Tell us ahead of time so we can discuss a useful access path. You do not need to reorganize the whole garage for us.

Sometimes bait is the right fit.

For certain pests, including some ant problems, we may use baits alone indoors. We choose the approach after identifying the pest and assessing activity. Keep children and pets away from bait placements and leave them where we put them. Read our ant treatment and aftercare guide for bait-versus-spray advice and what to expect from follow-up.

Spiders feed on other insects, so reducing that food supply can also help reduce spider activity. Our spider treatment and aftercare guide covers returning webs, live sightings and when to request follow-up. That supports the overall plan; it does not promise that every spider will disappear. THE BIGGEST HELP IS OUTSIDE

Toys and bowls first.

Please pick up dog toys, chew bones, food and water bowls, children’s toys, and other loose items near the house before we arrive. Put them somewhere outside the treatment area.

When practical, clear those loose items from within about 10 feet of the structure. This gives us room to inspect and work. The actual treatment area depends on the product label, the surface, and your property.

We start general pest visits with web removal and use that pass as a safety sweep, checking the treatment area for items that need attention before we apply products.

DURING TREATMENT & WHILE SPRAYS DRY

Keep people and pets off treated areas.

30–60 minutes

That is a typical spray-drying time in our service experience. Shade, weather, ventilation, and the surface can make it take longer.

Wait until fully dry.

Keep people and animals away during application and off treated surfaces until they are completely dry. The clock alone does not determine when an area is ready.

Secure dogs and other animals in a separate, untreated area and prevent access through dog doors. For interior spray work, keep everyone out of the treatment area and follow our ventilation and re-entry instructions.

Follow the instructions for your actual treatment. Some products or methods require additional precautions. Baits and granules have their own access instructions; a spray-drying estimate does not cover every product. We’ll explain what applies before we leave.

AFTER YOUR VISIT

A little communication goes a long way.

Let the treatment work.

Results depend on the pest and treatment method, and some activity may continue while treatment takes effect. Note where and when you see bugs; a photo can help. Contact us if activity persists, worsens, or you are unsure what to expect.

Check before cleaning treated spots.

We’ll explain which areas or bait placements to leave undisturbed. Before washing treated baseboards, hosing treated foundation areas, or adding your own insecticide, check with us. You can continue ordinary cleaning in untreated areas once access restrictions are met.

Know your follow-up options.

Active quarterly Shield customers have free callbacks for covered pest concerns between scheduled visits. Strike has a 30-day follow-up option; ask us what is included in your service. For Naturals or specialty work, follow your specific service recommendation.

Specialty treatments have their own prep.

For flea service, use the flea treatment prep and aftercare guide; return and cleaning instructions are specific to the treatment used.

This guide covers general pest service. Bed bugs and other specialty treatments may need a different plan. For a scheduled bed bug visit, use our bed bug prep & aftercare guide.

SERVICE THAT FITS YOUR HOME

Want the interior treated? Just tell us.

After the initial visit, our ongoing general pest service is usually exterior-only unless you request interior service. If bugs show up inside or you would like interior treatment, contact us at any time so we can coordinate access and confirm the service details.
