Fleas and ticks

In Idaho and Eastern Washington, the two most common flea species we see are the cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis) and the dog flea (Ctenocephalides canis). Ironically, most flea problems in dogs and cats are caused by cat fleas—not dog fleas.

Cat fleas are especially troublesome because they can survive on human blood, reproduce quickly, and spread fast through bedding, carpets, and pet fur. Once fleas or ticks make it inside your home, they bite both pets and people—often causing itching, allergic reactions, and in some cases, tapeworm transmission.

If you’re dealing with flea bites, scratching pets, or suspect a tick problem, SuperNova Pest Control provides fast, pet-safe treatments throughout Lewiston, Coeur d’Alene, Spokane, and nearby areas.

Ticks are a serious concern for people and pets across Idaho and Eastern Washington. These blood-feeding parasites latch onto humans, dogs, and wildlife—and some can carry dangerous diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

In our region, ticks are especially active in spring and early summer, hiding in tall grass, brush, and even shaded parts of your yard. Once they attach to a host, they can feed for hours—and may transmit bacteria or viruses in the process.

SuperNova Pest Control provides tick control treatments that protect your yard and home. We serve Lewiston, Coeur d’Alene, Spokane, and nearby cities with safe, effective solutions for families and pets.

Types of ticks
Several tick species are found throughout Idaho, Eastern Washington, and the Inland Northwest. Some are known carriers of serious diseases that affect both humans and pets.
  • Rocky Mountain wood tick (Dermacentor andersoni): Common in our region. Can transmit Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularemia. Often found in grassy, brushy, or wooded areas.
  • American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis): Found in Eastern Washington and occasionally Idaho. Can also carry Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
  • Western blacklegged tick (Ixodes pacificus): Less common, but capable of transmitting Lyme disease in parts of the Pacific Northwest.

While some tick-borne illnesses are more common in other parts of the country, our region isn’t risk-free. Early detection and prevention are key. SuperNova Pest Control provides professional tick control treatments to help keep your yard safe in Lewiston, Coeur d’Alene, Spokane, and surrounding areas.
