Homeowner guides / What to expect
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SUPERNOVA
Your surroundings, the pest and how long it has been there all shape the work ahead. We bring the same effort to every home, explain what progress should look like, and keep listening as your situation changes.
A PLAN FOR YOUR HOME
Two homes can have the same pest and need very different amounts of work. We look at what is happening on your property, explain what we find, and set expectations around that.
A home beside a lake or river can face more insect activity than a home surrounded by pavement. Aquatic insects emerge from the water, and lights can concentrate flying insects around windows, siding and eaves. That steady food supply attracts spiders.
We look at lighting, vegetation and the areas where insects gather as part of your plan. Why lakeside homes attract spiders
In our service experience, a home that has sat vacant can have a larger buildup of pests, webs and undisturbed hiding places. Older gaps, damaged screens and moisture can add to the problem.
Age alone does not decide the outcome. A well-maintained older home may have fewer issues than a new home with heavy pest activity nearby.
A few recent arrivals are a different starting point from a population that has been growing for months. Nest locations, access, food, moisture and new arrivals from nearby areas all affect the work needed.
A harder starting point may need more follow-up. We should still be able to explain the progress we are looking for and what we will do next.
THE FIRST MONTH
For our usual general pest start, we plan an initial treatment and a follow-up around 30 days. Specialty services and customized plans can follow a different schedule.
We inspect, identify the pest, look for contributing conditions and begin treatment. Interior service is available if you want it; it is not required. We explain the plan and any preparation or aftercare that applies.
For many general pest treatments, give it a week or two to judge the trend. Look for less activity and note where problems remain. That is a progress window, not a deadline for complete control.
You can contact us sooner if activity worsens, you find a nest or rodent signs, or you have a question or concern.
We review what changed and address what remains, with treatment decisions based on our findings and product instructions. In our experience, many homes are doing well after this second visit and move into maintenance.
Heavy outdoor spider activity and larger or complex infestations can need more time and a different follow-up plan.
THE BIG ONE: OUTDOOR SPIDERS
Outdoor spiders can be reduced and managed, but a permanently spider-free yard is not a realistic promise—especially beside water, woods or other strong sources of insects.
Spiders spend time in webs, sheltered gaps and other places where they may have limited contact with treated surfaces. New spiders can move in while their food supply remains. Even a product labeled for spiders has limits.
A home with a large established population may need several visits to reach a manageable level. We look for improvement after each visit, while recognizing that weather and new arrivals can change what you see. More about spider management
We combine accessible web removal, inspection, targeted treatment where appropriate, and recommendations to reduce insect food sources and hiding places.
Tell us where webs rebuild fastest, where live spiders gather, and whether you are seeing them inside. If results are falling short, we review the situation and adjust the approach. An occasional outdoor spider and persistent activity around your doors or living spaces deserve different responses.
EXPECTATIONS BY PEST
One home may have a small colony; another may be dealing with multiple nests spread across a larger area. Some species form connected networks of nests. We identify the ants and follow their activity rather than assuming every trail has the same source.
The ants you see are only part of the colony. Eggs, larvae and pupae remain in the nest, and surviving immature ants can develop into new workers over time. Colony-focused treatments also need time to reach the ants inside.
Some homes improve quickly after the initial visit; others make the value of that 30-day follow-up very clear. Please check with us before adding your own insecticide, which may interfere with the treatment plan. Ant treatment & aftercare
We can often eliminate an accessible nest in one service, which can noticeably reduce activity around the home. Hidden or difficult nests may need follow-up.
That does not stop every wasp from flying through. Some are foraging from nests on neighboring properties. Where we cannot treat the source, species-appropriate traps and reducing food attractants may help. Common yellowjacket traps do not work equally well for every wasp.
Tell us about repeated traffic into one opening or a newly active nest. Wasp behavior & trapping limits
A problem caught soon after mice move in can be very different from one that has grown unnoticed. In our experience, a well-established infestation can take a few months of monitoring and control, especially while entry points and food sources are being addressed.
Fresh signs help us assess progress. Report new activity promptly; do not wait one or two weeks to tell us about it. Active rodent control and exclusion have their own service scope and follow-up plan. How mice get in & what helps
In our experience, many earwig problems respond well to one treatment; some need a second. Moist hiding places, leaf litter and continued movement toward the house can affect results.
We look at both the activity and the conditions supporting it. If you keep finding them inside, tell us where and how often so we can follow up.
Treatment around a home does not remove the surrounding boxelder bug population. New bugs can arrive from nearby trees and gather on warm walls as seasons change.
We have customers whose main concern is these seasonal invaders. The aim is to reduce troublesome activity around the home and limit entry, using appropriately timed service and recommendations for gaps and screens. Recurring arrivals may need ongoing attention. OUR APPROACH TO IPM
Integrated pest management means combining identification, inspection, monitoring, practical prevention and targeted treatment. We focus our effort where it can make a useful difference.
Our goal is for indoor pest sightings to become a rare occurrence. Repeated sightings, trails or new signs are useful feedback, and we want to hear about them.
We work to reduce troublesome spiders, wasps, ants, earwigs and other covered pests near the home and the areas you use. We do not promise to remove every insect or spider from the outdoors.
An ant mound 200 yards away that is not affecting the home may not need treatment. We assess the species and activity, focus protection around the structure, and monitor for changes. Distance alone does not decide whether a colony matters.
SERVICE THAT FITS YOUR DAY
Most routine exterior visits are scheduled for a service day, with arrival anytime on our route unless we have arranged a time with you. We send reminders by text, email or phone 1–5 days before service.
We are happy to arrange a time when you need interior service, have specific concerns to show us, or need to bring outdoor dogs inside. Reply to your reminder or contact us so we can coordinate.
After the initial visit, regular general pest service is usually exterior-only. Interior service is available on request. Tell us about gates, access instructions, pets and anything you want us to inspect.
For most of our routine treatments, you do not need to leave the property, provided everyone can stay out of the treatment area and follow the instructions for that visit.
Indoor spray applications often take about 45 minutes to dry in our experience, but conditions can make that longer. Keep people and pets away during application and off treated surfaces until fully dry, with any required ventilation and additional product precautions followed. Time alone does not determine re-entry.
Baits, granules and specialty treatments have their own instructions. Pick up toys and bowls, and arrange a separate area for pets. Outdoor-dog families: please request a timed visit so we can coordinate. Full prep & aftercare guide · Pet precautions
ONGOING CARE & YOUR WARRANTY
The landscape around your home keeps changing. Insects hatch, colonies grow, seasons shift and pests move in from surrounding areas. Shield gives us regular opportunities to inspect, respond and keep the plan working for your home.
Active quarterly Shield customers who stay on schedule receive free return service for covered pest concerns between scheduled visits. Let us know what you are seeing so we can assess it and arrange the right response.
This is a pest-control warranty, not a promise that every outdoor bug will disappear. It is also our commitment to help when covered activity needs attention. One-time, Naturals and specialty services follow their own terms.
Most customers follow a regular quarterly schedule. Some choose seasonal service or skip winter, and we are flexible about discussing what fits your home.
The Shield warranty depends on keeping the home on regular quarterly maintenance. Skipping a visit can stretch the interval from about 90 days to 180 days or longer, giving pest activity time to build again. We welcome seasonal and customized scheduling, but those gaps do not carry the same free-callback coverage as uninterrupted quarterly service. If you skip a scheduled quarterly treatment, free-callback coverage pauses. To restore it, complete two consecutive scheduled quarterly treatments, about 90 days apart. Coverage resumes after the second treatment and continues while you stay on your quarterly schedule. Additional visits before coverage resumes are not included under the quarterly warranty; we will explain any charges before booking.
Heavy pest activity may call for closer attention. Tell us what is working for you so we can discuss a useful schedule. No contracts or cancellation fees.
YOUR FEEDBACK HELPS US DO BETTER
You live at the home every day. Your observations help us find patterns we cannot always see during a visit.
Inside or outside? Which room, doorway, wall, eave or side of the house?
An occasional sighting, a repeated trail, new webs, fresh signs or activity that is increasing?
Tell us when you noticed it and whether it improved after service. A photo can help when you can take one without approaching a nest or disturbing a pest.
We will listen, explain what the activity may mean, and make a plan for the next step. You do not have to decide on your own whether a concern is “normal.”
Tell us about your home, your pets and what you are seeing. We will help you understand the next step.
